Honey Hunting Trekking in Nepal (10 Days)


Honey Hunting is the age-old tradition in some mountain areas of Nepal. This is a tradition to collect the wild honey from the hive hanging on a rock hill. Honey This is the real and frequent activity of indigenous Gurung and Magar Community in Bhujung and Pasgaon for honey hunting from which they are able to solve their problem of bread and butter. The hives are made in the rock at height about 300-400 meters from the ground by the indigenous wild bees. The locals celebrate the honey hunting as a festival by offering flowers, grains and sheep to the God before hunting. The leader of the hunter drop down from the top of the rock by the bamboo ropes’ ladder while others help him to collect the honey, relay the basket and hold a rope correctly. While one going to enjoy with the honey hunting they can enjoy with the Nepal's natural, cultural beauty and Himalayan view at the same time.
This ancestral job of honey hunting still continues in many remote villages of Nepal while offering high tourism potential. A large section of travelers are increasingly showing their interest in honey hunting thereby ensuring staple sources of local revenue generation, besides Ghalegoan Bhujung and the hole of Annapurna region, Dhading and Jharlang across Ganesh Himal Arun valley in Makalu and other trekking areas have become Popular for honey hunting, a new tourist activity but in Nepal except Bhujung area of Annapurna region, special package of Honey hunting for tourist is not developed yet. Nerveless few lucky tourist get chance to observe honey hunting on spot while traveling along the trekking routes. There are myriad be nests found in the inner and outer rings of different trekking areas which if professionally scientifically and technically managed, provides an immense potentiality of promoting honey hunting as an add- on product.

01 : Arrival In kathmandu and transfer to the Hotel. 
02: Drive from Kathmandu to Besishahar (5 hrs drive) Over Night : Hotel 
03: Trek from Besishahar to Ghalegaun (6 hrs trek) Over night : local lodge.
04: Trek from Ghalegaun to Bhujung (3hrs trek). Over night: local lodge 
05: Trek from Bhujung to Thaku Bhir (hunting place). Over night: Camping 
06: ThakuBhir (Free day to watching hunting). Over Night: Camping.
07: Trek from ThakuBhir to Bhujung (3hrs trek). Over night: Local lodge. 
08: Trek from Bhujung to Besishahar (6hrs trek back). Over night stay at Hotel.
09: Drive from Besishahar to Kathmandu. (5hrs Drive Back). Over night ; Hotel.
10: Final Deperture
